So it begins...

I've been avoiding this for some time but I've finally convinced myself that, since I'm on facebook, my privacy has already been compromised. This blog will at the very least be factual.

Rumor has it that vinyl is making a comeback. As far as I'm concerned, it never really left. I've been a record owner for close to 30 years (the album on the left being my first) and although my collection grew thin for some time in the mid-nineties, at no point did I ever lose my love for records and the turntables that play them. You can rant all you like about the convenience of a CD or MP3, but having to actually get up and flip a record over has never really been an inconvenience for me. As a matter of fact, as I type this I'll soon have to put on side two of The Unforgettable Fire.

Around 1998 I rediscovered the joy of albums with a good friend and roommate, slowly rebuilding a collection. That collection has now grown to about 700. I've gone through 3 turntables in that time, good and bad, comfortable now with a Dual 701. Castle Kendall II monitors on hand built stands are powered by a NAD 2150 amp and 1020 pre-amp. I am extremely happy with this current set-up, having owned the turntable for close to ten years it has taken this long to build the system around it to fully appreciate its exceptional performance. the Grado Black cartridge has quite a lot to do with that as well. What this system will not do is make your ears bleed with and abundance of decibels. But really, what would be the point of that?

Time to flip the record...
